Berlin

Berlin – the German Capital welcomes you to discover the unexpected:

Events of the day as well as history, modern architecture besides historic buildings, metropolis atmosphere amidst impressive scenery, party around the clock but also private places, shopping from second-hand to exclusive …

In few words: Berlin hits the spot for any need. And each of the twelve districts has his own character and flair. Discover Berlin in any shade of colour!

In the destrict of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg you will mainly find students and artists, who form the character and the culture of the area.

You will see Germany´s longest architectural monument, the former GDR - boulevard Karl-Marx-Allee – well known as „Stalinallee”. The boulevard was mainly built for parades and state visits and for that it was constructed in a Russian wedding-cake style in the early fifties.

If you take a walk, don´t miss the district´s landmark, the „Oberbaumbrücke“. The brick-lined bridge was one of the border crossings between West- and East-Berlin. Next to the bridge you can visit the “East Side Gallery“, a part of the original Berlin wall, painted by 21 artists.

The most famous border crossing was without any doubt the “Checkpoint Charlie” in the “Friedrichstraße”. In the “Mauermuseum (museum of the wall) - Haus am Checkpoint Charlie“ you will get many informations about the history of the Berlin wall and the stories of attempts to escape East-Berlin.
