The Czech capital was largely spared from the destruction of the Second World War. The cityscape presents a variety of European architectural styles and since it was once decorated with numerous gilded church towers it is colloquially called the "Zlatá Praha", which means Gold Prague. Another theory for the golden name, tells the story of Rudolf II the Holy Roman Emperor as he was supporting alchemists to create gold in Prague.
Today the historic city centre belongs to the list of UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites, located near to the A&O Hostel Prague. This city steeped in history has a fairy-tale like atmosphere with its historic buildings such as the Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, the Kafka House as well as its numerous little alleys. Relax in one of the iconic cafés and try a sandwich with a tasty Prague Ham. Dive into the Czech jazz scene, enjoy the beer culture and let yourself be captivated by the enchanting splendour of Prague's nightlife.
