Digital payment methods

a&o now offers also Wero and Bling

London, 22 May 2026 – With the introduction of Wero and Bling, a&o hostels now offers two additional payment services, expanding its range to a total of eleven digital payment methods.

Phillip Winter, CMO, commented: “We cater to a diverse range of target groups with varying needs, and we want to offer all guests the greatest possible flexibility and convenience when paying.” Wero provides a European alternative for direct mobile account-to-account payments, while Bling adds a cashless prepaid option specifically designed for children and teenagers.

Modern payment methods are digital, fast, and convenient. In addition to credit and debit cards, smart payment options like Apple Pay and Google Pay have been an integral part of the a&o portfolio since 2023. According to Winter, cash payments are now the exception, though they are still accepted for orders at the bar and reception counter. A full overview of accepted payment methods is available at aohostels.com.

Wero enables fast and secure account-to-account payments directly from a user's bank account, eliminating the traditional need for a credit card. Meanwhile, the Bling Card operates on a prepaid basis as a flexible digital payment card for everyday use, designed to help young people manage their money responsibly.

Tailored for young audiences

It is no coincidence that Bling fits perfectly into the a&o portfolio: every year, around 25,000 school groups visit a&o, making them one of the chain's largest and most loyal guest demographics. Winter added: “Bling is gaining popularity among European teenagers, and this generation is precisely our core target audience.”

Digitalisation as a philosophy

From the initial booking click to check-in, the new payment options are part of a consistent digitalisation strategy that extends far beyond the reservation process. Whether it is online booking, digital check-in on-site, or contactless payment, a&o is committed to a fully digital guest journey. Initial figures show that Wero was an instant hit, with the first transactions processed on the very day of the launch, a clear signal that guests are actively embracing these new digital channels.
