Record year 2016: A&O notches up 3.7 million overnight stays and significantly surpasses the 100 million Euro marker for the first time

The low budget chain recorded a turnover of 114 million Euro in 2016, with around 23,000 beds and 3.7 million overnight stays.

"We can attribute this strong result to our annual themes of quality improvement, product development and employee training, among other things. We are extremely proud of growth of almost 18% in our sixteenth financial year.
By opening the first A&O in Salzburg and additional hotels in Cologne and Prague, we have also been able to secure a significant market share in these three destinations", says Phillip Winter, CMO of A&O HOTELS and HOSTELS.

The chain will grow rapidly over the coming years thanks to the real estate investor TPG. Just in 2017 alone, the A&O Group is expanding to 34 sites in 22 cities across Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Denmark and Italy by opening three sites in Copenhagen (spring), Venice (summer) and Bremen (autumn).

"The aim is clear: to expand Europe's No.1 hostel chain even further. A&O will continue in the future to be a brand recognised for the best value for money on the market, in the best city locations. We are currently looking at many properties, and major changes in the product development and the brand vision are also on the agenda. It will certainly be one of the most exciting years in our company's history", adds Winter.

The brand focuses on a wide range of en suite room categories, so that travel-oriented target groups from single travellers, couples, families through to large groups can all be accommodated under one roof. Our target groups include leisure/city tourists (40 percent), group/class trips (37 percent), families (15 percent) and business guests (8 percent).
