Bavarian State Opera
The Bavarian State Opera is one of the most renowned opera houses in the world. Together with the Bavarian State Ballet, it offers a repertoire of nearly 350 opera and ballet performances a year. The Opera House is the seat of the Bavarian State Orchestra, with Kent Nagano as Music Director-General.

Residenz Theatre
The Residenz Theatre is the main venue of the Bavarian State Theatre ensemble and the largest theatre stage in Munich. The following venues are part of the Bavarian State Theater: the New Residenz Theater, Cuvilliés Theater (Old Residenz Theater) and the Royal Stables (Studio Stage).

Cuvilliés Theatre
Prince Elector Max III. Joseph had this theatre built in the Munich Residence in 1751. It has staged numerous magnificent productions of baroque operas, including, in 1781, the first performance of Mozart's "Idomeneo". Come experience this work of art, a jewel of the Rococo era.
Marstall
The Munich Marstall, the former Royal Riding School and Stables, is an annexe of the Munich Residenz and the experimental stage of the Bavarian State Theatre.
Munich Philharmonic Orchestra
The Gasteig is home to the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, one of Germany's leading internationally renowned orchestras. With Christian Thielemann as general music director, you will be entertained with music by Mozart, Wagner, Richard Strauss, Tchaikovsky or Rachmaninoff. You can also experience the cult Brass Ensemble "Blechschaden", with its lively Scottish conductor Bob Ross. Here anything from Mozart to Michael goes – a fun night is guaranteed! State Theatre on Gärtnerplatz
The State Theatre on Gärtnerplatz was built in the currently trendy Gärtnerplatz borough in 1865.
This theatre’s repertoire includes operas like “Carmen”, “The Marriage of Figaro” and “Death in Venice”; operettas like “Boccaccio” and “One Night in Venice”; musicals like “The Wizard of Oz”, “My Fair Lady” and “Sweeney Todd”; or the simply enchanting “Midsummer Night’s Dream” ballet. The theatre also offers a charming children’s programme. Please keep in mind that most shows are in German.

Prinzregenten Theatre
The Bavarian Theater Academy shows their great operas and musical productions in this art nouveau jewel of a building. In addition to this, the theatre is also the second home of the Bavarian State Opera, the Bavarian State Ballet, the State Theatre on Gärtnerplatz, the Bavarian Radio Orchestra and the Munich Chamber Orchestra.

Munich Kammerspiele
Nominated “Theatre of the Year” in 2009, the Munich Kammerspiele is one of the most successful German language theatres.
On the same stage where Bertolt Brecht used to present plays almost 90 years ago, the Munich Kammerspiele offer a world-class repertoire today: from plays by old masters such as Goethe, Schiller, and Chekhov, to relevant current plays and their premieres. In addition to the Schauspielhaus in Maximilianstrasse, it has two additional venues: the “Neue Haus” and the experimental “Werkraum”.
Deutsches Theater
Since 1897, this theatre affectionately coined the “Palace of Smiles” offers a unique stage with 1,600 seats and over 300 performances a year.
The broad offer ranges from high-quality international shows, lavish performances and terrific live music to masterful ballet and fascinating dance theatre. Here, the most successful musicals of Broadway and London's West End are on offer.
Because of construction works, the company has relocated to numerous tents in Fröttmaning, which is located near the Allianz Arena, until 2011.
Metropol Theatre
The theatre opened in 1998, yet managed to preserve an authentic 50's cinema style. With 140 seats and a very large stage area, the theatre successfully creates the direct exchange between actors and the audience.
The GOP Varieté Theatre
Where big names of the acting scene once stood on the stage, from Johannes Heesters to Grit Boettcher, now stands the new GOP Varieté Theater Maxmonument. The variety of genres – from acrobats, jugglers and comedians to articulate presenters – will make you laugh and marvel. In addition to this, you can experience cuisine at its finest.
