Pinakotheken
An ensemble of world fame in the art scene - the two opposing buildings house some of the most important art collections in the world and are truly unique. An absolute must for art fans - the only question is which gallery to visit.
As a world-class painting gallery, the Alte Pinakothek is also a place where spectacular, special exhibitions are shown revolving around topics taken from aspects of European painting beginning with the Middle Ages through to the 18 th century. Small studio exhibitions as well as presentations of works from the museum's own collection are also part of a long, ongoing tradition.
The Neue Pinakothek offers an overview of European art from classicism to art nouveau. Temporary exhibitions offer an additional outlook on the 19th century.
With the Pinakothek der Moderne, a spectacular new tract was opened for contemporary art from the beginning 20th century until today. On an exhibition space of more than 15.000 m², the Pinakothek der Moderne shows modern art from graphics to photography, sculptures to video art and more.
Open daily except Mondays 10.00 - 18.00, Tuesdays 10.00 - 20.00

Lenbachhaus
The Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus, the former villa of the “painter prince” Franz von Lenbach, largely owes its reputation as a major international museum to its unique collection of works by the artist group “Der Blaue Reiter.” In addition, Lenbachhaus also offers a look at the 19th century Munich school of painting. Moreover, consistent presentations in the area of contemporary art have lead to substantial acquisition activity during the last 20 years of works by important present-day artists.
Open Tue-Sun 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

State Museum of Egyptian Art
Founded in the 16th century by Duke Albrecht V, the Egyptian museum is located in the impressive Residenz palace. Relatively small, the museum is devoted (naturally) to Egyptian artefacts, including statues, jewellery and household goods, where some of them are 5000 years old. The amulets and idols depicting Egyptian gods are at once familiar and very alien, while one claustrophobic room houses an eerie collection of mummies.
Open: Tue-Fri 9am-5pm (Tue also 7pm-9pm), Sat-Sun 10am-5pm
