One of the highlights of a&o's destinations is undoubtedly our hotel in Edinburgh. 
The city itself is steeped in history and offers visitors a picturesque old town, filled with sights from the time of the Scottish Wars of Independence - a hint of Braveheart wafts around Castle Rock! The hostel itself is centrally located, right next to Holyrood Park. Both, The Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle are just a stone's throw away. The main railway station is also just a 5-minute walk away. The hotel itself is housed in one of the city's typical sandstone buildings and boasts a number of highlights. 

The building has been renovated to meet conventional and comfortable hotel standards.
It also has its own pub, which serves local beer and whiskey specialities as well as cocktails and long drinks of all kinds, and a spacious courtyard with comfortable seating - ideal meeting places for our guests to relax with cold drinks after an eventful day on their feet ... or just to warm up for the evening pub crawl.
But the a&o Edinburgh City a&o also offers comfort without compromises in all other respects. There are four room categories to choose from:  Single, double, family and multi-bed dorm-style rooms. All room categories are comfortably furnished and have their own bathroom with shower and WC. Our guests also have access to free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. To get the day off to a good start, we offer a rich breakfast buffet in the bar area. Packed lunches can also be picked up on request for when you are out and about. If you need help planning your day or want to find inspiration, our 24-hour reception is the perfect place to go: We are happy to provide help and advice.

Our hotel is ideally located for exploring Edinburgh and the surrounding area, heading out for the night, or simply enjoying one of the great events at Bar50. After a long day on your feet exploring the Old Town or a trip to the Highlands, the sunny courtyard and Bar50 invite you to relax in a cosy atmosphere with a cool drink. City travellers, party people and backpackers are all welcome.

Our 131 rooms with a total of 610 bed are furnished to hotel standards and provide an ideal retreat and place to relax. Guests enjoy free Wi-Fi around the clock and can rely on 24/7 service at the snack bar. Additionally, they have access to a laundry facility and a luggage storage room. The reception is m´permanently staffed throughout the day and stands at the ready to help – if you have any questions or problems, please feel free to contact our reception crew.

From Edinburgh Waverley Train Station:

Leave station towards Princess Street, turn right towards North Bridge, then left onto North Bridge, cross bridge and turn left onto High Street. Turn right at the junction with Blackfriar Street. The house is on the right. (Walking time approx. 10 minutes.)

 

Travelling by plane

From the airport by tram:

Any tram that can be taken from the airport towards St Andrews Square is correct.

Take the tram to St Andrews Square (14 stops) and walk as above - Princes Street eastbound / North Bridge, cross North Bridge and turn left into High Street. Turn right at the junction with Blackfriar Street. The house is on the right. (Time: approx. 28 minutes)

From the airport by bus:

From the airport, take the feeder bus line 100 "Airlink" to Waverley Station/Princess Street. Then walk as above - Princess Street eastwards/ North Bridge until you reach North Bridge, cross it and turn left into High Street. Turn right at the junction with Blackfriar Street. How are the rooms at a&o equipped?

All room categories offer modern hotel standard with private bathroom and free WiFi. As a rule, each room also has a TV. Single, double and family rooms include bed linen and towels. Family rooms consist of a double bed and one or two bunk beds. Dorm rooms have four to eight beds. Bed linen can be brought or reserved for a small additional fee. All bathrooms are standard equipped with shower/WC, 2-in-1 shower gel, hair dryer and cosmetic tissues.

Can I stay with a dog/pet at a&o?

At a&o, a maximum of two dogs or pets can be taken without any problems in single or double rooms - for an additional fee of 13 euros per animal and night. The animals should just not be too large or exotic.

Can I cook for myself at a&o?

Cooking for yourself is not a problem at a&o. Most a&os offer a well-equipped guest kitchen. Which hostels have a guest kitchen is noted on the respective hostel website and in the booking confirmation.

Are there cribs at a&o?

Each hostel has cribs that can be borrowed free of charge. When booking online, simply note this in the notes field. The room will be prepared accordingly.
