Church of Our Lady

In October 2005 the reopening of the Church of Our Lady, destroyed during the bombing of Dresden 1945, was celebrated. Today it is a so called “open church”, which can be visited for free. There is only a charge for guided tours and the observation deck (67 m high). It is worth to see it!

Zwinger

The Baroque Zwinger, rebuildt from 1945 to 1963, is today one of the main attractions of Dresden. Besides the art collection, you can visit the carillon pavillon and the water artwork „Nymphenbad“. Open daily 6 a.m. to 10 p.m..

 

Residenzschloss

The Residenzschloss was the domicile of the Saxonian kings and electors and it was rebuildt since 1986.

 

Striezelmarkt

Starting in the year 1434, the Striezelmarkt in Dresden is the oldest Christmas Market in Germany. He was named after a German Christmas cake, who is called „Striezel“ or „Christstollen“.  The Striezelmarkt is open the weeks before Christmas.

Night-skating

From the end of April to the beginning of October thousands of sportive people meet at 9.00 p.m. every Friday evening to go skating through Dresden. They cover a distance of 20 kilometres accompanied by a mobile music car. Start and goal are at the halfpipe in “Lingner Allee”, nearby the town hall. An absolute must for all sport freaks!

Bonfire places at “Elbufer”

At five places on the bank of the river Elbe it is allowed to make campfires and to barbecue. These places are bricked up dips and marked with stones. Here are the places:

- below Moritzburger Steet (minor exchange Pieschen)
- below Eisenberger Street (minor exchange Pieschen)
- below Drachenschänke (minor exchange Neustadt)
- above Blue Wonder Bridge (at Loschwitzbach – minor exchange Loschwitz)
- below Laubegaster Street (minor exchange Loschwitz)

Around Dresden 

 

Meißen

Meißen is situated at the Saxonian wine route, 30 km north west of Dresden. The cosiest way to get there is definitely by steamboat. Meißen is famous for the Meissner porcelain! The museum, which shows the history of  the porcelain opens daily at 9.00 a.m..

 

Saechsische Schweiz

The Saechsische Schweiz ist the German part of the Elbsandsteingebirge, which is shared by Germany and the Czech Republic. Go and see the Fort Königsstein and the Sandsteintafelberg. A must-see for nature lovers.

 

Barockgarten Großsedlitz

The Barockgarten Großsedlitz and the integrated Friedrichsschloesschen can be found 30 km south east of Dresden. The garden is designed in French style and open from 8 a.m..
