Brandhorst Museum

This museum, first opened in 2009, exhibits Udo and Annette Brandhorst’s expansive private collection of the finest modern art. The permanent exhibit includes pieces from the 20th and 21st century by greats Andy Warhol, Gerhard Richter, Damien Hirst, Cy Twombly and more.

Lenbachhaus and Kunstbau

An unparalleled collection of “Blaue Reiter” art has won the villa of the "painting prince" Franz von Lenbach a place amongst internationally renowned museums.
The villa will be closed for extensive renovations from the spring of 2009 to 2012. As an interim, the “Kunstbau” – an exhibition hall designed by Uwe Kiessler – will be presenting works from the period of Expressionism to Contemporary Art.

Bavaria’s collection of ancient Greek and Roman sculptures, located in the historically significant Königsplatz. Highlights of the exhibit include the Medusa Rondanini, the Barberini Faun, and the figures from the Aphaea temple on Aegina.

Haus der Kunst

Housed in an impressive classical building adjacent to the English Garden, this exhibition hall of international renown is famous for its thematic exhibits and retrospectives. Egyptian Museum

This museum showcases 5000 years of Egyptian history: world-class works of art and cultural treasures all gathered under one roof. You can find pieces from all eras - from the prehistoric, to the classical periods of the Ancient, Middle, and New Empires, to the late period, and the Greco-Roman antiquity.

Hypo Kunsthalle

In the Fünf Höfe, the futuristic shopping arcade directly in city centre, the Hypo Kunsthalle offers major exhibits, including works by artists of the modern classics such as Gauguin, Picasso, Chagall, Miró, Magritte, Giacometti and Nolde. The most successful shows to date were "Claude Monet and Modernism" and "Mark Rothko".

Jewish Museum

Built in 2006, the Jewish Museum is part of the new Jewish community centre on Jakobsplatz smack dab in the centre of Munich. The permanent exhibit "Stimmen_Orte_Zeiten" showcases Munich's Jewish history and culture, whilst temporary exhibitions deal with issues such as "Photography in a Jewish context". An important goal of the museum is to create a place for the open discussion of Jewish history and current and past Jewish art and culture. We highly recommend a visit to the bookstore and café: a great place to enjoy delectable pastries in the sunshine.

Deutsches Museum

This museum is a masterpiece of engineering and sciences, the largest of its kind in Europe. A collection spanning from the stone axe to high-speed trains, from the pocket sundial to the scanning tunneling microscope. 120,000 technical objects spread out on an area of 60,000 m2. It is located on the museum island of Ludwigsbrücke (Ludwig bridge), and is open Monday to Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm.
