Munich

The capital of Bavaria on the Isar bank is Germany’s third largest city and at the same time an attraction for tourists from all over the world. Here you can experience German tradition in its most Bavarian style: leather trousers and Bavarian veal sausages, dirndl dresses and pretzels, beer gardens and “a Maas Bier” (a liter of beer).

The landmark of the city, the cathedral Frauenkirche, is located in the midst of the Old Town. In the pedestrian zone you can go shopping, stroll and pause in one of the numerous pubs or restaurants. On a promenade through the immediate vicinity you can explore Marienplatz with the new and old town hall, Viktualienmarkt, the Residenz as well as the baroque Theatinerkirche.

Munich is worth a visit if you are interested in arts and culture. The city provides even three collections of paintings (Alte and Neue Pinakothek as well as Pinakothek der Moderne), the largest technical museum in Germany – the Deutsches Museum or the gallery in the Lenbachhaus. The well-known quarter Schwabing with Ludwigstraße (between Siegestor and Feldherrenhalle) is the meeting place for students and lovers of culture to have a pint in the evening.

You should visit Theresienwiese not only at Oktoberfest (from mid-September) but also in April, because the annual spring festival takes place there. And besides that the Tollwood Festival attracts you in summer and winter to enjoy theatre, music and other cultural programmes.

The A&O City HOTEL Munich and the A&O HOSTEL and HOTEL Munich have  excellent transport connections and are the perfect starting points for discovering Munich by day or night and the Theresienwiese is within a stone’s throw of your A&O.
